Since 2001, PFC has been sponsoring the Humanitarian Hall of Fame monk, Lama Tenzin Choegyal, and his heroic efforts to rescue children from the Dolpo region of the Himalaya Mountains. The journey involves trekking 10 hours/day for 20 – 30 days while climbing over altitudes of 18,000 feet through treacherous conditions, often encountering mercenary – in the past Maoists rebels demanded payment for passage. The brave monk and his group of children push through the insurmountable odds to the orphanage where Lama Tenzin has created a safe and loving home as well as private school education. Be inspired by the great work of Lama Tenzin as you compare the pictures of the children when they were rescued and later as they thrive at the Children’s Educational Development (C.E.D.) Institute in Northern India.

Partnerships For Change® arranged the resources for the award winning and  dramatic documentary Walking the Waking Journey, as the very humble and courageous Buddhist monk, Lama Tenzin Choegyal, founder of the C.E.D. Institute (Children’s Educational Development, an orphanage for neglected children of the Himalayas) and G.I.F.T. (Girls’ Institute For Technology empowering disabled girls from remote villages of the Himalayas), describes the unspeakable hardships of what the young, Tibetan refugee children have experienced as they fought for their lives and walked with him to safety to begin a new life in India.  These children trekked a staggering 10 hours daily for 10 days at an altitude of 18,000 feet over the Himalayas encountering Maoist terrorists, death defying weather conditions and physical exhaustion.  PFC actively supports the great work of Lama Tenzin Choegyal, C.E.D. Institute, and G.I.F.T.

Recent Support for C.E.D.

  • PFC linked Lama Tenzin to a funder to cover the tuition to college for the first high school graduates from the C.E.D. Institute. They are the first girls in the history of the Upper Dolpo region to attend college.
  • In annual trips to the United States PFC develops further volunteer and financial support for C.E.D.. In Lama Tenzin’s fall 2015 visit, PFC brought Lama Tenzin together with a media business, Nous Entertainment to raise funds and support for C.E.D. Institute in New York and New Jersey.
